Downtown living has plenty of perks, but laundry isn't usually one of them. Shared machines on another floor, in-unit stacked washers too small for a duvet, or no machine at all in an older loft. Wash and fold takes it off your list. You fill a bag, we collect it, and it comes back clean and folded, ready to put straight into drawers.

Everyone has laundry rules. Tell us yours once and we'll note them on your account:

• Unscented or sensitive-skin detergent
• No fabric softener, or no dryer sheets
• Items to hang dry, such as activewear, bras or delicates
• Folding style for shirts, towels and fitted sheets
• Separate bags for different people in the household

Preferences stay on your account, so repeat orders come back the same way every time. If something changes, like a new baby, a new detergent allergy or a switch to more activewear, update your notes on the next pickup and we'll follow the new instructions from then on.

Who uses wash and fold downtown

High-rise residents in South Park and Bunker Hill who'd rather not spend an evening watching a shared dryer. Loft dwellers in the Arts District where in-unit laundry may be limited. Sheets, towels and the big stuff

Bedding is where wash and fold really earns its keep. A queen duvet barely fits in a stacked apartment washer, and towels take forever in a shared dryer. Send sheets, towels, blankets and pillowcases in the same pickup, and mark comforters or duvets separately so they're priced correctly. Weekly or every-other-week pickups keep linens on a steady rotation.

What doesn't belong in the bag

Keep dry-clean-only pieces, suits, silk and structured garments out of your wash and fold bag; they go in a separate bag for dry cleaning pickup and delivery. Heavily soiled items or anything with strong chemical stains should be bagged separately and mentioned in your notes. And always check pockets: pens, lip balm and tissues cause more laundry problems than anything else.
